[Kerwin at Passrider.com] Farnborough Airshow Recap | Check Out Barbados

I talk about my visit to the Farnborough Airshow as well as talk about what to expect when you visit Barbados

Hi Fellow Traveler,

I hope you had a great week!

Please support the newsletter partner, by checking out their ads. This helps to keep all this work going for you. This week, it’s brodo’s bone broth.

This week, I journeyed to London for the Farnborough Airshow. It was amazing and completely worth it!

The show is held every other year in the suburban town of Farnborough, England.

It’s a great place to see and hear what’s going on in the industry. The three major airplane manufacturers (Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer) are all there to showcase their wares. And it’s not only commercial aviation, it’s also military as well.

Embraer E-190 Freighter

Here are the flights I took to get there. The main goal with the flights was to fly two new airlines, PSA and Play. As such, my routing was:

  • Houston-Hobby to Dallas/DFW to Chicago-O’Hare to New York-JFK on American Airlines (PSA)

  • JFK to London-Gatwick on Norse

  • Gatwick to Dublin, Ireland on Ryanair

  • Dublin, Ireland to Keflavik, Iceland on Play

  • Keflavik, Iceland to Boston on Play

  • Boston to Dallas-DFW to Houston on American Airlines. It was supposed to be on Spirit nonstop from Boston to Houston-Intercontinental, but the flight was cancelled

So, yeah, I was on Spirit as I flew them once before and it was O.K. service, so since their schedule matched mine this time around, I bought the ticket.

But, they canceled the flight and left me stranded without any recourse, after two long phone calls and texting (they’re on WhatsApp) and talking to the worst agent ever who lacked every ounce of compassion and capacity to help a customer when their airline failed. I’ve flown more than 193 airlines now and believe me when I say that a cancellation recovery was never handled this way.

So, to keep my sanity, I booked a hotel, booked a ticket on American, and will see how it plays out with my travel insurance claim since a cancellation triggered the situation. Stay tuned…

And I’ll write the DOT a letter about how the cancellation was handled by Spirit.

I got a question from someone asking if once they get a seat on the airplane, can they ask a revenue customer to switch.

The answer is no.

You are not allowed to swap your seat with a revenue customer; only if the revenue customer asks you to do so. You cannot initiate the request.

There’s a lot of logistics to making it to the Olympics in Paris next week; here’s some information you need.

  • This is pretty major and I’m so glad that BA initiated this project. Please spread the word if you know anyone who is between 18 and 55 and has the legal right to work in the U.K.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

A friend of mine was on holiday and got sick; unfortunately, she did not have any form of travel insurance. So she had to pay out of pocket and have a doctor and nurse come to her house to get treatment. Four days later she was feeling better and ready to fly home to get further treatment.

I say this to say that travel insurance is just as important as booking your flights and your hotel; it’s a part of the journey. it gives you peace of mind when you travel. At least, it does for me. That’s why I have an annual policy. Consider getting travel insurance for every trip or an annual policy. you don’t need it until you need it.

Note: If you purchase travel insurance via this link, I receive a small commission. Thank you in advance.

TRAVEL CREDIT CARD OFFERS

If you use credit cards, then consider getting a card that gives you points for every dollar you spend. This will ensure that you can travel almost for free when you are ready.

Here are a few travel offers that came to my mailbox.
