[Kerwin at Passrider.com] Air Taxis They're Coming To A Port Near You
In this week's newsletter, I recap my visit to NBAA in Las Vegas, as well as talk about the new gates at Houston-Intercontinental Airport and include a Trip Report.
Hi Fellow Traveler,
I hope you had a fantastic week and will enjoy the weekend.
Remember that the U.K. falls backward an hour on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 2a.
The Amenity Kit Giveaway is almost over. If you’ve not already entered, you can do that now as time is running out.
It’s been a busy week as I took a trip to Las Vegas for the NBAA/BACE annual show. This is the show for business aviation in the U.S. It had two parts; one is the exhibits and the other the static aircraft displays.
This is where you get to see the general aviation giants showcase their sometimes new or upgraded airplanes.
Still amazed at this part of the aviation industry. The show was much smaller than last year in both the exhibits as well as the static display, though. The largest booths were the gas companies that provide fuel to the private jets.
Most notable are electric air taxis from Joby and Lilium. Here are two videos so you get the flavor of them all.
I also got a tour of the new pier of six new gates at Terminal D in Houston-Intercontinental. The video is forthcoming, so stay tuned. Have you flown out of this new part of Terminal D as yet? Here’s a photo of one of the gate areas.
Views of the planes are made easier with this design in the new part of Terminal D
And I have a simple Passrider Tip for you.
Passrider Travel Tip of the Week
Research Local Holidays and Events for Off-Peak Travel Opportunities
When planning a non-rev trip, consider checking the local holiday calendar and event schedule of your destination.
Major cities often have lower travel demand during local holidays when residents leave, or during non-peak travel seasons when large events aren't taking place. This can mean lighter loads and a better chance of scoring a seat.
For example, travel to cities known for big celebrations like Carnival in Rio or Oktoberfest in Munich just after these events wrap up to enjoy quieter, less crowded flights and cheaper accommodations.
How are things in your neck of the woods?

PLAY Airlines is one of the new airlines to fly on my list. I was able to do so from Dublin, Ireland (DUB) to Keflavik, Iceland (KEF) and then onto Boston. This is my story about the first leg of the flight. Have you flown PLAY yet?
From Iceland they serve the following cities in North America:
Baltimore, MD (BWI) to Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF)
Boston, MA (BOS) to Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF)
Hamilton, ON Canada (YHM) to Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF)
Newburgh, NY (SWF) to Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF)
Washington-Dulles, VA (IAD) to Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF)
