[Kerwin at Passrider.com] Hello From Bahrain

This week, I'm enroute to the Dubai Airshow and I remind you about Jamaica and Hurricane Melissa.

Hi Fellow Traveler,

Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to read my words. It is appreciated! Here’s hoping you had an amazing week.

As fate would have it, Passrider.com is having issues at the moment; working on it though… My apologies for the inconvenience.

I’m in Bahrain at the moment enroute to Dubai for the Dubai Airshow next week. Check my Instagram and YouTube accounts for updates throughout the week. The 777-9 will make an appearance.

This trip is an adventure-filled flight on Gulf Air. They resumed service to the U.S. on October 1, 2025, after nearly 30 years. I decided to try them as the last time I flew them was from Bahrain to London.

It was less than a stellar experience, and I’ll have more once I get the journey all completed.

Airports are still having delays due to construction and also the mandated FAA flight cuts, which are now capped at 6% rather than 10%. There are still delays due to ATC holds. I was delayed getting into LaGuardia from DCA on Thursday. It was a painful experience. Not the first I’ve been delayed to LGA as many of you know LaGuardia always have ATC delays; just too many planes in a tight spot.

The flight crew was so frustrated as they couldn’t communicate anything to us as they just had to wait for updates.

I thought I was in DFW, though, as there were so many AA regional jets in DCA; it’s crazy!

A tough week for travel, how did you fare if you traveled?

Thanksgiving is coming up, so pack your patience and carry-on only, if you’re traveling and seriously get to the airports early and hope for the best. The aviation system just has too many flights. I think the airlines have gone overboard and are just getting greedy. There is no room for any errors or delays without severe impact to the flying public.

I created a page so you can check the flight status for your airline; of course, you can always use the airline’s App.

Other airports around the U.S. are also experiencing issues, so be sure to check the airport’s website before heading to the airport.

Hurricane Melissa Relief Continues

Please continue to think of the people in Jamaica as they try to get back on their feet. This includes my own family members, who also had damage to their homes. They all survived, thankfully, but as you can imagine, it’s pretty hard on them and their neighbors.

I’m amazed at the number of organization that does the work of getting people back on their feet. hats off to them.

This is Borders, which Hurricane Melissa destroyed

These organizations need your financial support. TIME magazine has a great article with some helpful links; please check it out: https://time.com/7329186/hurricane-melissa-caribbean-impact-victims-how-to-help-relief-organizations/.

Jamaica is coordinating its efforts at https://supportjamaica.gov.jm/donate.

This is a good starting point. Monetary donations are preferable, allowing recipients to use the funds as needed.

UNICEF and the International Red Cross also have resources set up.

I don’t have the special Jamaica page set up as yet, as this week has had me traveling in the Boston area for a conference. But my trip did provide additional information for that page so the trip was worthwhile. Stay tuned.

✈️ Passrider Non-Rev Travel Tip of the Week

Non-Rev Tip of the Week: Build Flex Days Into Every Trip

Right now, between FAA-mandated flight cuts and ongoing airport construction, there’s one rule for non-rev travelers: don’t plan anything tight if you can help it.

If you must travel, build “flex days” into your plans — at least one day before and one day after your intended arrival or return. Here’s why it matters:

Flights are being cut or merged daily. What’s on the schedule today might not exist tomorrow.
Longer lines = missed opportunities. Security backups and staffing gaps can make even early arrivals risky.
Repositioning takes longer. With fewer flights, alternate routes fill fast.
Weather season is kicking in. Even small delays ripple across the network.

Pro move: Treat your trip like a weather forecast — give it a margin for error. A flexible mindset and extra time cushion can make the difference between getting there and getting stranded.
