[Kerwin at Passrider.com] Hello From Wichita, Kansas
The Kansas episode.
Hi Fellow Traveler,
Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to read my words. It is appreciated! Here’s hoping you had a good week.
If you’ve got a question, just hit reply please. Thanks for the questions you’ve sent in.
I’m in Kansas so try this in Google. Search for “the wizard of oz” and when you get the result, click on the red shoes ext to the title of the first choice. Then click on the tornado icon after that :-).
Wichita, Kansas - Air Capital
As you know, I’m visiting Wichita, Kansas this week courtesy of the folks at Visit Wichita and TBEX; Travel Bloggers Exchange.
This is my second time in Wichita; but first time out of the airport. There’s a story there :-).

ICT Airport Check-in Area
Wichita is an avgeek’s dream visit. It’s home to Stearman, Beechcraft, Learjet, Bombardier, Boeing, Spirit Aviation and so many more aviation stuff.

I’m working on a full blog post, but as a newsletter subscriber, I’ve shared some sneak peek for you.
Have you ever been to Wichita?
Oh, Wichita is also home to one of the two flying B29 Bombers, Doc. the other one is Fifi. They were both at Oshkosh 2025 back in July.

The hangar where DOC is stored at the airport
I didn’t get to see DOC as it’s currently out in California at an Airshow.
Would you be interested in taking a trip to Wichita to experience some of the things it has to offer aviation-wise? Like, the Kansas Aviation Museum, a ride in Doc and possible other aviation-related businesses? If you are just hit reply and say Yes I’d be interested. This would help me to put a package together for a possible trip.
Wichita has an amazing “new” terminal; it’s 10 years old. They’ve done an amazing job with it.
Aviation-wise, I had a chance to visit the Kansas Aviation Museum and they actually opened up a new exhibit for Women in Aviation, Textron Aviation and saw the new Ascend interior the Citation M2, Bombardier’s U.S. operation, Stearman restaurant; it’s right next to a runway and Wichita State University’s aviation research. Wichita is an action-packed aviation experience.

More later next week as I put everything together.

Meeting Connie, who was one of the riveters of the B-29

✈️ Passrider Non-Rev Travel Tip of the Week
✈️ Mind The Marathon Season
October/Early November isn’t just a lull — it’s also marathon season in major cities like Chicago, Amsterdam, Dublin, Frankfurt, and New York. These events quietly push loads higher than expected, especially on weekends, as thousands of runners (and their supporters) fly in.
How to work around it:
✅ Check city event calendars before you go — flights and hotels may be tighter than load reports suggest.
✅ Target midweek flights around marathon weekends — easier to clear than Friday arrivals or Sunday/Monday returns.
✅ Have alternate airports ready — for NYC, think JFK vs. EWR vs. LGA; for Chicago, ORD vs. MDW.
✅ Don’t forget ground travel — sometimes a train from a nearby city is the smarter play when events clog the main hub.
Pro move: If you’re heading to Europe this month, look beyond the “big name” cities hosting events — you’ll often find more space into secondary hubs nearby.
