This issue is all about Oshkosh 2025.

I had a blast this week. I opted to fly into Chicago-O’Hare on American Airlines (AA) and then drive the nearly 4 hours drive up to Oshkosh, WI as flights any closer were quite expensive and there was not the frequency which I needed.

The show was action packed as always with no shortage of airplanes. My favorite moment was actually rush hour traffic. Check it out in this video.

It was great to see airplanes like Alaska Airlines’ MAX 8 in a special commerative livery for veterans as well as Delta’s 100 livery on its A321neo and a Boeing 747-SP which is a flying tested for Pratt & Whitney.

There was a military Connie; did not know that was a thing :), C-17, C130, Airbus helicopters, Honda Jet II, Joby’s electric plane, Beta’s electric plane, a ton of military planes, sailplanes, ultralites, homebuilts, general aviation planes, seaplanes, 2 Goodyear blimps and so much more. I will be adding more videos on the YouTube channel too, so subscribe and setup notifications.

I’ve compiled an article here with some Oshkosh information including links to several videos, please take a look - https://www.passrider.com/oshkosh-2025-guide-eaa-airventure/.

On departing ORD’s Terminal 3, TSA only had one security area plus TSAPre open at 8p at night. Insane as there were at least 200-300 people in this line. My flight actually took a delay as they waited for five more passengers. Makes zero sense that they close the checkpoints when so many more flights are leaving.

So, I went over to Terminal 2 and there was no line there. Please do better TSA as this makes no sense at all. Then had to do the longer walk over to Concourse L!

In addition, they closed down one of the trains from the Rental Car facility, then told us to move into the train so others at T5 can enter. How about you just run the trains until the airport empties out? I’m so sonfused with how these airports do this. The same occurs are EWR too.

As soon as it gets night, they reduce the service and the volume of customers is just too much for the service/frequency they are providing. What have you seen at other airports?

Rain was in the forecast for Wednesday, but despite ominous clouds, it didn’t rain enough to mess things up for the night show. Thursday was supposed to have rain in the a.m., but thankfully it didn’t really materialize. Not sure what happened in the p.m. as I departed about 1p or so.

Wednesday evening's clouds

All in all, it was a good show with so much to do and I enjoyed it. I maxed out at 18,068 steps on Wednesday and drove a lot of miles :-).

Have you made to Oshkosh or any other cities in Wisconsin?

📣 What’s Next?

Passrider Travel Tip of the Week

Plan Around Major Aviation Events Like Oshkosh

Big events like EAA AirVenture Oshkosh can cause spikes in demand—not just for local airports like Appleton (ATW), Green Bay (GRB), or Milwaukee (MKE), but for connecting hubs like Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Minneapolis (MSP) as aviation fans and industry folks pour in.

If you're non-revving around one of these events:
Arrive early in the week, before the big crowds build up.
Leave a day or two after the event ends, when loads lighten again.
Don’t just search for ATW—look at GRB, MSN, and even ORD + Amtrak or car rental.
If departing from the event, expect full flights on Sunday and Monday. Back yourself up with alternate cities or ground transport to a major hub.

Bonus: Keep an eye on repositioning flights after the event—sometimes airlines shift aircraft or have light loads heading home.
