Travel Tip of the Week: Consider Nearby Airports to Increase Your Chances of Getting On A Flight
When your target destination airport doesn’t look so good, don’t overlook nearby regional or secondary airports.
For example, if you're trying to get to New York's JFK but it's packed, try LaGuardia or even Newark; similarly, if Los Angeles is full, consider Burbank, Long Beach, or Ontario airports.
Of course, you should also research ground transportation so you can get where you need to be.
These alternative airports often have lower demand, meaning better non-rev seating availability.
You might also find shorter security lines, quicker boarding, and a less hectic atmosphere, which can make for a much smoother non-rev experience.
A little extra ground travel could be worth it to help secure that flight and avoid the stress of waiting for a seat.
Plus, exploring regional transport options—like airport shuttles, trains, or buses—can make connecting from a nearby airport easy and affordable.
