MILES/POINTS TIP OF THE WEEK

Capitalize on Award Flash Sales

Airline loyalty programs sometimes roll out flash sales—short-lived promotions where you can book award flights for significantly fewer miles. These deals can be a game changer if you're ready to act fast!

How to Make the Most of Flash Sales:

  1. Stay Informed:

    • Sign Up for Alerts: Subscribe to newsletters or follow your favorite airlines on social media to catch flash sale announcements as soon as they drop.

    • Frequent Flyer Forums: Check out online communities like FlyerTalk or The Points Guy for insider tips on upcoming or ongoing promotions.

  2. Be Prepared:

    • Know Your Goals: Have a rough itinerary in mind so you can quickly search for award availability when a flash sale starts.

    • Keep Your Account Updated: Make sure your loyalty program account is in good standing and that your payment method is current—flash sales can fill up fast!

  3. Act Fast:

    • Limited Windows: Flash sales often last just a few hours or days, so be ready to book immediately to secure the reduced mileage rates.

    • Flexible Travel Dates: Being flexible with your travel dates or destinations can open up more opportunities during these sales.

Pro Tip: If you spot a flash sale that aligns with your travel plans—even if it’s not your top choice—consider booking it. You can often use the savings to plan another trip later in the year!
