MILES/POINTS TIP OF THE WEEK
Cruise with Rewards—Maximize Your Points for Your Next Voyage
Even though cruises aren’t typically booked with miles and points directly, you can still leverage your travel rewards to enhance your cruise experience and save money. Here’s how:
Book Through Your Travel Portal:
Many travel rewards credit cards allow you to book cruises through their travel portals. This way, you can earn bonus points or miles on your cruise purchase while using flexible rewards to offset the cost. The larger airlines have a travel portal you can use to book cruises and get points for doing so.
Alaska Airlines - https://club.alaskaair.com/cruises/
American Airlines - https://www.bookaacruises.com/
Delta Air Lines - https://cruises.delta.com/
jetBlue - https://www.jetbluevacations.com/book/flights-cruise
Southwest Airlines - https://www.southwestcruises.com/
United Airlines - https://cruises.united.com/
Use a Travel Rewards Credit Card:
Pay for your cruise with a credit card that earns bonus rewards on travel expenses. Some cards offer extra points on cruise bookings, effectively lowering your out-of-pocket costs or future travel spending.
Here are some current offers:
Combine with Hotel or Airline Rewards:
If your itinerary includes pre- or post-cruise stays or flights, book those with your rewards. Many hotel programs and airline miles can be transferred or used to cover parts of your overall vacation, making your cruise more affordable.
Look for Onboard Credit Promotions:
Keep an eye out for cruise line promotions that offer onboard credits or bonus amenities when you book during certain periods. While not direct points, these perks enhance your cruise experience and add extra value to your booking.
Pro Tip:
Plan your entire trip as a package—combining flights, hotel stays, and your cruise—to maximize your rewards across multiple spending categories. This integrated approach can unlock additional points and exclusive offers, turning your cruise vacation into a truly rewarding journey.
