MILES/POINTS TIP OF THE WEEK
Map Out Your Travel Goals Early
The start of a new year is the perfect time to set your mileage and points objectives. Whether it’s earning elite status, saving up for a big trip, or trying out a new airline’s loyalty program, having a plan in place will help you stay focused and maximize your rewards. And this is the time to start figuring it out.
How to Get Started:
Note the Program Starting Dates
Here’s the program qualifying periods for the top five U.S. airlines:
Alaska Airlines (AS) - Mileage Plan | January 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025
American Airlines (AA) - AAdvantage | March 1, 2025 - February 28, 2026
Delta Air lines (DL) - SkyMies | January 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025
jetBlue (B6) - Mosaic | January 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025
Southwest Airlines (WN) - Rapid Rewards - January 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025
United Airlines (UA) - MileagePlus | February 1, 2025 - January 31, 2026
Set Your Targets
Decide whether you want to earn a specific elite status, accumulate a certain number of miles, or plan a big redemption like a round-the-world trip.
Budget Your Flights & Spending
Estimate how many flights (or how much spending on a co-branded credit card) it’ll take to hit your goal.
Space your trips or spending throughout the year so you don’t scramble at the last minute. This is me; the scrambler :-).
Track Progress
Use a rewards app or a simple spreadsheet to monitor your mileage balances and upcoming flights.
Stay Flexible
Programs can change—keep an eye out for promotions, route updates, and potential devaluations. Adjust your plan as needed.
Pro Tip: If you spot limited-time signup bonuses or promotions early in the year, jump on them. They can help you earn a big chunk of miles or points quickly, speeding up your journey toward your 2025 travel goals.

STANDING STATUS MATCHES
Here are some more status match offers from other airlines. Remember that you cannot status match within the same Alliance. So if you have say American Airlines AAdvantage status, you can’t status match to British Airways:
