MILES/POINTS TIP OF THE WEEK
Capture Miles on Every Trip—No Mile Left Behind
I know it’s hard to be loyal to the travel partners you use these days, as every step of the way, the partners are changing the programs. But here are some tips to work with what we have.
To maximize your travel rewards, make sure you're earning miles on every aspect of your journey. Small actions can add up to big rewards over time!
How to Ensure You're Acquiring Miles:
Enroll in Loyalty Programs
Always sign up for the airline, hotel, and car rental loyalty programs you travel with—even if you're not a frequent flyer with them yet.
Many programs have free membership, so there’s no downside.
Always Add Your Loyalty Number
Before booking flights, hotels, or car rentals, double-check that your membership number is included in your reservation.
For flights booked via third-party sites, confirm with the airline that your miles will be credited.
Leverage Partnerships and Transfers
Use credit cards that transfer points to multiple airline or hotel programs.
Explore co-branded credit cards that offer bonus miles on travel purchases to ensure you’re earning rewards on every dollar spent.
Use Shopping Portals and Dining Programs
Earn additional miles by shopping through your airline’s shopping portal and dining at participating restaurants.
These extra miles can quickly add up with regular use.
Review and Consolidate
Regularly check your loyalty accounts to ensure all miles are credited. Sometimes, this can be a pain. I’m fighting with American Airlines now.
If you notice discrepancies, contact customer service early to have them corrected before any miles expire.
Pro Tip: Set reminders to update your loyalty information and check for any new partnerships or promotions. Small efforts today can lead to big savings on future travel!
PS: You can get lots more information about frequent traveler programs for airlines, hotels, and car rental companies in my frequent traveler course at https://cruisinaltitude.newzenler.com/courses/frequent-traveler-101.
HOTELS
If you book directly with the hotels, head over to https://www.passrider.com/hotels for links, and if you prefer to use an online travel agency, head over to https://www.passrider.com/expedia, my hotel booking partner.
STANDING STATUS MATCHES
Here are some more status match offers from other airlines. Remember that you cannot status match within the same Alliance. So if you have, say American Airlines AAdvantage status, you can’t status match to British Airways:
