Tip of the Week: Unlock More Value by Booking Partner Airlines

You can maximize your miles by booking award flights with an airline's partners. Frequent flyer programs allow you to redeem miles on partner airlines, often providing more availability, better amenities/service, or better routes than the airline you originally earned miles with.

How to Make the Most of It:

1. Know Your Partners:

   • Identify the airline alliances or partnerships your loyalty program is part of (e.g., Star Alliance, oneworld, SkyTeam). Each airline has a special partners page. Get familiar with it.

2. Search for Partner Award Availability:

   • Use your airline's website to search for award flights, but don't limit yourself to their flights only. i.e. identify the partner flights; it will say “operated by <airline name>”.

   • Some airlines display partner availability online, while others may require you to call customer service.

3. Be Flexible:

   • Check different dates and airports to find the best routes and availability on partner airlines.

   • Sometimes flying with a partner airline can require fewer miles or have lower fees.

4. Book Your Flight:

   • Follow the booking process online, or if necessary, call your airline's award booking line to secure your seat.

Pro Tip: Partner award bookings can uncover hidden gems like better seat availability, more convenient flight times, or access to premium cabins on international flights. Always compare options between your primary airline and its partners to ensure you're getting the best value for your miles.
