MILES/POINTS TIP OF THE WEEK

Tip of the Week: Supercharge Your Miles and Points During Black Friday and Cyber Monday

The holiday shopping season isn't just great for snagging deals—it's also a prime opportunity to boost your miles and points balances. During Black Friday and Cyber Monday, many airlines, hotels, and credit card companies offer special promotions that can help you earn extra rewards on your purchases.

How to Make the Most of It:

  1. Shop Through Airline and Hotel Portals:

    • Earn Bonus Miles/Points: Access your favorite retailers via airline or hotel shopping portals like the AAdvantage eShopping mall or Rakuten (they have a ton of deals this week) partnered with Membership Rewards to name two.

    • Increased Offers: During Black Friday week, these portals often offer higher bonus rates per dollar spent.

  2. Look Out for Limited-Time Credit Card Offers:

    • Activate Special Promotions: Check your credit card's app or website for holiday-specific offers that give bonus points or cashback at certain retailers.

    • Use Bonus Categories: Some cards offer elevated rewards in categories like electronics or department stores during the holiday season.

  3. Leverage Amex Offers, Chase Offers, and More:

    • Check for Statement Credits: These programs may provide significant discounts or bonus points for spending at select merchants.

    • Stack Deals: Combine these offers with portal bonuses and retailer discounts for maximum rewards. So use your airline credit card to buy stuff so you get the discounts plus the points on the card.

  4. Purchase Gift Cards:

    • Double Dip on Rewards: If possible, buy gift cards through a rewards portal to use later or give as gifts, earning miles or points on the purchase.

    • Future Savings: Use these gift cards during post-holiday sales for additional savings.

  5. Monitor Airline and Hotel Promotions:

    • Discounted Award Redemptions: Some programs offer reduced mileage requirements for award flights or hotel stays booked during this period.

    • Accelerated Elite Status: Look out for opportunities to fast-track your way to elite status with bonus qualifying miles or nights.

Pro Tip: Combine and Conquer

  • Stack Multiple Promotions: For example, use a credit card with bonus points at a retailer, accessed through an airline portal offering extra miles, during a Black Friday sale. This way, you're earning rewards from the retailer discount, the portal bonus, and your credit card rewards—all in one purchase.

Remember: Deals move fast during Black Friday week. Set aside some time to plan your shopping, prioritize the best promotions, and act quickly to maximize your rewards.
