12 things to do in Santiago, Chile

Hi,

I hope you are enjoying this series so far. Today’s city is Santiago, Chile in South America, it’s the next highest one you all voted for. Actually, it’s tied with two others which you will see over the next few days unless another place gets voted above them.

Santiago, the vibrant capital of Chile, is a city where the pulse of Latin America is present in every corner. Santiago offers an eclectic mix of experiences that beckon travelers seeking a dynamic urban adventure.

Chile itself is one of the places you can experience, deserts, penguins and plains, plus some wines too.

The city is nestled in a valley surrounded by the snow-capped Andes and the Chilean Coast Range, whether you're immersing yourself in the city's rich history, exploring its natural beauty, or indulging in culinary delights, Santiago has something to offer everyone.

I’ve been to Santiago, Chile a few times and love it all the time. I’ve stayed in different parts of the city too. They do have a train system that’s quite efficient. I’ve actually spent a New Year’s Eve/Day there too; crowded, but fun.

The views of the Andes are just breathtaking, especially on landing in Santiago.

You can find additional information on the U.S. State Department’s website at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/Chile.html.

Note: If you see a demonstration going on during your visit, stay clear of it. They do occur from time to time.

The following airlines serve the main airport, Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport (SCL) and it’s the home for LAN (LA), a Star Alliance member:

Aerolineas Argentinas (AR), Aeromexico (AM), Air Canada (AC), Air France (AF), American Airlines (AA), Arajet (DM), Avianca (AV), British Airways (BA), Cathay Pacific Airways (CX), Copa Airlines (CM), Delta Air Lines (DL), Iberia Airlines (IB), Japan Airlines (JL), JetSmart Argentina (WJ), JetSmart SpA (JA), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL), LATAM (LA), Malaysia Airlines (MH), Qantas (QF), Sky Airline (H2) and United Airlines (Star Alliance) (UA)

Fun Story: I once took a LAN Chile (at the time) Airbus A340 flight from SCL to Buenos Aires (EZE) as I couldn’t get back on the nonstop DC-10 service back to the U.S. Then I took British Airways to London and then United back to Houston. So be creative with your routings if you get stuck. As I landed, the BA flight was right next to me. I walked over to the gate on my way in and told the agent that I was booked on the flight, showed her my paper ticket and ID and she allowed me to get on the flight.
