[Kerwin at Passrider.com] Visiting Berlin-Tempelhof Airport | Can I Use The Seatmap To Determine If A Flight Is Full?

Check out how to visit the Berlin-Tempelhof airport in Berlin, Germany

Hi Fellow Traveler,

It’s been a very busy week for some strange reason. I was trying to get the 100+ Free Things To Do In Paris, France done, but failed… Sorry about that. I should be done hopefully before the weekend is over.

I’ll be in Savannah, GA for a conference next week, to seek out travel suppliers so I can better serve you. I’ve been to SAV airport, but never made it into the city, so this will be my first time.

I’ve heard so much about the city, so it will be great to finally check it out. Have you been to Savannah?

I did notice that my hotel had a 4p check-in which I just don’t understand. Hotel prices are much higher these days, so even if they’re having issues cleaning the rooms on time, that’s not the fault of your guests and they should not be made to wait an extra hour as a result.

You’re still charging the same price as you did before, so you’ve gained and we’ve lost.

What have you seen? What say you? Hit reply and let me know.

Thinking of booking an adults-only cruise, head over to Virgin Voyages.

How are things in your neck of the woods?

Here’s what I have for you this week.

If you want to find out what to do in any city worldwide for 24 hours check out my new site 10in24.com. You can even have it email you all the details as well.

If you’re looking for a new newsletter service provider, the one I’m using is called beehiiv. Check it out, I think you’ll like it.

This Week’s Aviation/Airline News

Here are some newsworthy items in aviation this week. It would seem like every day, something is happening to an airplane:

I’ve A few years ago, I had the pleasure of visiting the Berlin-Tempelhof Airport. It was simply amazing and I felt like a kid in a candy store. This airport was decommissioned along with the other two airports in Berlin (Schonefled and Tegel), and now only Berlin-Brandenburg (BER) is left to service the entire city.

Passrider Question: Can I Use The Seatmap To Determine If A Flight Is Full?

I see this question a lot online and I also get people asking me this.

The answer is no.

The seat map only shows the seats that are assigned, not how full the airplane is.

These days, many passengers do not purchase a seat assignment when they buy the ticket as they don’t want to pay for it. Or they’ve bought a fare that only assigns a seat on the day of departure and at the airport. Or they can assign a seat at no charge, but just haven’t done it as yet.

So you may see the seatmap with open seats, but the flight is booked full or even overbooked. On the other hand, the flight may also be open.

For this same reason, you cannot look at the seatmap and think you’ll have an open seat next to you on the flight as this may not happen. The only time you really know is after everyone has boarded and you look at the seatmap.

I hope this helps to clear things up.

One way to get hotel points is to get one of these massive credit card offers. Chase has a current offer for 4 FREE nights; this is pretty epic as it's usually about 40K+/night if you stay in popular cities. This is a great deal and you should at least check it out. I also get some miles if you get a card, so we both could win.
