Hi {{Name|Fellow Traveler}},

I hope you had a good week. Thank you for reading my work each week.

The big news is that you may get stuck with other travelers this weekend as a massive snowstorm/freeze is predicted for many parts of the U.S. This means if you don’t have to travel, stay home.

If you are traveling, expect delays and be prepared to overnight somewhere you didn’t plan to. And know that hotel availability will be limited as well.

Good luck and if you need help, drop me a note at www.passrider.com/contact.

Hurricane Melissa Relief Continues

I’m working on a project for the people whose lives have been upturned in rural Jamaica. I should have some news soon. I hope you will help support the project.

Please continue to think of the people in Jamaica as they try to get back on their feet. This includes my own family members, who also had damage to their homes. They all survived, thankfully, but as you can imagine, it’s pretty hard on them and their neighbors.

I’m amazed at the number of organization that does the work of getting people back on their feet. Hats off to them.

This young man in Jamaica, Colaz Smith, has a YouTube channel, and he’s taking donations and then buying supplies for the affected people. These are the people in areas hard hit, but difficult to get to. Head over to https://colazsmithtvtours.com/helpjamaica to donate. You can see his YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@Colazsmithtv.

Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay.

These organizations need your financial support. TIME magazine has a great article with some helpful links; please check it out: https://time.com/7329186/hurricane-melissa-caribbean-impact-victims-how-to-help-relief-organizations/.

Jamaica is coordinating its efforts at https://supportjamaica.gov.jm/donate.

This is a good starting point. Monetary donations are preferable, allowing recipients to use the funds as needed.

UNICEF and the International Red Cross also have resources set up.

Another organization is Samaritans Purse. You can donate at https://samaritanspurse.org/ y clicking on the Give button.

✈️ Passrider Non-Rev Travel Tip of the Week

Let the Weather Decide for You

With severe winter weather moving across large parts of the U.S. this weekend, this is one of those moments where the smartest non-rev decision might be not to push it.

If you don’t have to travel, seriously consider waiting it out. Winter storms reduce runway capacity, strain crews, and eliminate recovery options fast. A single cancellation can strand you for days.

But if you must travel, here’s how to protect yourself:

  • Fly as early in the day as possible. Morning flights have the best chance of operating before conditions deteriorate.

  • Avoid tight connections. Snow and ice make even small delays dangerous for onward travel.

  • Favor major hubs over smaller airports. Big hubs recover faster when things go wrong.

  • Have a hard stop. Decide in advance when you’ll walk away and try another day instead of chasing flights endlessly.

  • Pack for the wait. Power banks, snacks, meds, and warm layers are not optional this weekend.

Pro mindset:
Bad weather weekends aren’t about determination — they’re about judgment. Knowing when not to travel is just as important as knowing how.
