Hi {{Name|Fellow Traveler}},

I hope you had a good week. Thank you for reading my work each week. I have some new readers, so welcome.

Last night I was super tired, so I didn’t finish the newsletter. I also wanted to finish the hotel review, so sorry for the delay.

Read the entire newsletter, please, as I have a gem further down :-).

The story about what to do if traveling to the Middle East was the most popular from last week, as travelers look for information. You can read it here if you missed it.

Travel is not too bad this week domestically — Spring Break has started, but it will get worse next week as it kicks into gear in more places. Travel to Asia is up, though, as spring and cherry blossom season draw both tourists and nonrevs chasing those long-haul seats.

We didn’t have electricity or phone service when I grew up in the mountains of St. Elizabeth. Lamps were the order of the day, and you learned to get your most important work done before the sun dipped behind the hills. It was our way of life, and we made it work. I think this is why I’m not a happy camper now :-). Although I’ve been on a camping safari.

But today, months after Hurricane Melissa tore through, that "old way of life" has returned to St. Elizabeth—not by choice, but by necessity. One of the residents I’m in touch with has to walk to his parents' house just to charge his phone so he can stay connected to the world.

How You Can Help This Week

I’ve set a goal to raise $1,000 by midweek to keep us moving. Every dollar you send goes toward a specific, tangible piece of this rebuild.

  • $12 — Buy One Sheet of Zinc: This is the foundation. It keeps a family dry today and provides the solid structure we need to mount solar panels tomorrow. It’s less than the cost of a meal at the airport.

  • $50 — Sponsor a Student: This helps to purchase computers, destroyed by the Hurricane for the children at the local primary school.

  • $325 — Power a Home (Portable Solar): This helps to provide a high-quality portable solar unit for a family currently living by lamplight. It’s enough to keep the lights on and the phones charged.

  • $1,500 — The Full Family Rebuild: This sponsors an entire household recovery—the plywood, the heavy-duty 26-gauge zinc, the lumber, and the solar unit. You are literally putting a roof over their heads and the lights back on.

We are at $470 right now. Let's get across that $1,000 line by Wednesday.

✈️ Passrider Non-Rev Travel Tip of the Week

Don't Overlook Connecting Flights for Better Odds

When popular nonstop routes are showing full, check connecting options—even if they seem less convenient. A flight with a connection often has better seat availability because revenue passengers pay a premium for nonstops.

The strategy: Instead of competing with 15 other nonrevs on the packed nonstop, you might be the only standby passenger on a connecting itinerary through a hub or a focus city. Yes, it adds time, but it significantly improves your chances of actually getting there.

Action step: When checking loads, always look at 1-stop options through your airline's hubs or focus cities. Sometimes leaving an hour earlier on a connection gets you to your destination before the oversold nonstop even departs.

My Caribbean and European Playbooks also has a ton of tips you can use.
