Just got back from the Farnborough International Airshow, and what a week it was. I'm keeping this week's edition short and sweet while I recover from the travel — but I couldn't wait to share a few highlights with you.
Quick Hits From the Show
United's A321XLR — the airplane that's about to change how United flies the thinner transatlantic routes, right there on the Airbus static. Great to see it up close and had a walk through.
Emirates' A350-900 — Second time seeing this bird. I got a look at the new economy headrests with the fold-out wings for your head. When you're falling asleep mid-flight, that's exactly the little touch you want.
BETA Technologies — their ALIA CX300 flew in Loganair tartan, and for good reason: Loganair signed for up to 10 of them at the show.
Vertical Aerospace — First time seeing this and actually hearing about it; the VX4 became the first eVTOL ever to fly a public demonstration at an international airshow. History, right in front of us.
GE Aerospace SAAB 340 hybrid - History making airplane too; first time debuting for the public.

The Journey Home
The trip back was an adventure of its own. Instead of flying from the U.K., I took the train from London out to Holyhead in Wales, then crossed the Irish Sea by ferry into Dublin. Full trip report coming on that one too.

Summer Loads Are No Joke
Summer loads are running extremely high right now, especially in the domestic market. Don't walk into the airport with just one plan — have serious backups lined up before you list: alternate routings, alternate hubs, and OA options if your own metal fills up. The flight you're counting on at 5pm may be the one that goes out full, so know your next two moves before it does.
And sometimes the best backup isn't a flight at all. Coming home from Farnborough this week, I took the train from London to Holyhead and the ferry across to Dublin — and that was on a revenue ticket, not a pass. Whether you're non-revving or flying revenue, keep trains, ferries, and buses in your back pocket when the skies aren't cooperating.
